The announcement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. This marks the first time in about nine months since the departure of the previous ambassador. Ambassador Roh's father, the late former President Roh, promoted the "Northern Policy" by establishing diplomatic relations between China and South Korea in 1992 during his term in office.
Ambassador Roh has also inherited his father's will and has been a key figure in China-ROK relations, serving as an advisor to the International Advisory Group of Chengdu in China in 2016 and as chairman of the Social and Cultural Subcommittee of the Committee for the Future Development of Korea-China Relations in 2021.
In late August of this year, he visited China as a special envoy of President Lee along with former National Assembly Speaker Park Byung-seok and others, and met with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Ambassador Roh is expected to use the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit as an opportunity to coordinate the schedule for President Xi's visit to South Korea.
