According to the "August Population Trends," there were 18,984 children born, a decrease of 2,798 (12.8%) from a year ago.
This was the largest decrease in 2 years and 9 months since November 2020, when there was a decrease of 3,637 people (15.5%) compared to the same month last year.
Additionally, this is the first time since statistics began in 1981 that the number of children born in August has fallen below 20,000.
Furthermore, the crude birth rate, which is the number of children born per 1,000 people, was 4.4, a decrease of 0.6 from last year. This figure is also the lowest in August so far.
