韓国新野党代表「女性も警察官・消防士になるなら “軍隊”に行くべき」
South Korea's new opposition leader says, ”If women want to become police officers or firefighters, they should join the military.”
South Korea's new opposition party, the New Reform Party, has pledged to ``promote a plan that will allow only women who have completed their military service to apply for civil service positions such as police and fire departments.''
At a press conference at the National Assembly on the morning of the 29th, party leader Lee Jun-seok said, ``People who want to become new civil servants in positions such as police, maritime police, and fire departments should not be considered male or female.
"We will make it compulsory for people to perform military service without having to do military service," and added, "We will make exceptions for some cases where it is difficult to perform military service, and introduce it as early as 2030."
He continued, ``His military service history is reflected in his salary,'' and ``According to the Constitution, all citizens must shoulder the duty of national defense.''
Until now, about half of South Korean citizens have been paying the burden. From now on, I would like to propose a change to a system in which the remaining half pay the burden little by little."
