South Korean government joins G7-led ``Ukraine Reconstruction Donor Coordination Platform''
The South Korean presidential office announced on the 15th, ``The government has joined the G7-led ``Ukraine Reconstruction Donor Coordination Platform (MDCP).''
The MDCP was launched at the initiative of the G7 to coordinate Ukraine's financial support and medium- to long-term reconstruction and recovery plans, and to discuss Ukraine's reform issues.
It is a consultative body among core donor countries. MDCP has so far included the G7, the European Commission, Ukraine, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Last July, South Korea announced the ``Ukraine Peace and Solidarity Initiative'' on the occasion of President Yoon Seo-gyul's visit to Ukraine. Next, this year, an additional 300 million dollars (approx.
45 billion yen), and a medium- to long-term support package of more than 2 billion dollars (approximately 300.3 billion yen) starting next year, as well as comprehensive support that combines security, humanitarian, and reconstruction fields.
Based on these contributions, at the MDCP Steering Committee meeting held online on the 14th of this month, it was decided that South Korea would become an official member country.
The South Korean President's Office said, ``With Japan's direct participation in the consultation process among major donor countries, we will be able to more directly understand the progress and trends of the reconstruction and restoration of Ukraine.
This will further expand opportunities for Japanese companies to participate."
