Jung Joon Young was released this morning after serving his sentence at Mokpo Prison in Chollanam Province. He was released from prison wearing a deep bucket hat and with his face hidden by a mask, and left the scene without answering any questions from the press.
Jung Joon Young was detained with Choi Jung Hoon, a former member of FTISLAND in January 2016 in Hongcheon, Kangwon province, and in March of the same year in Daegu on suspicion of group sexual assault of a woman in a drunken state, among other charges. In addition to this, he was also suspected of spreading illegally filmed material on 11 occasions, including revealing sexual acts with women in a chat room of a group of celebrities at the end of 2015 and forwarding secretly filmed footage.
At the first sentencing hearing in November 2019, the Trial Chamber sentenced Jung Joon Young to six years' imprisonment, completion of an 80-hour sexual assault treatment programme and a five-year work restriction to relevant institutions for children and adolescents, as well as welfare institutions for disabled persons. In September 2020, the Supreme Court, 2nd Department dismissed all appeals by Jung Joon Young and the prosecution, and confirmed the sentences of the two courts.
Jung Joon Young made his name through Mnet's Super Star K4 in 2012 and has been active in a number of variety shows, including appearing as a regular member on KBS 2's variety show '2 Days 1 Night'.
