South Korea's HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has won an order for four warships from Peru, marking its full-scale entry into the Latin American warship market. This order is for Korean companies to export defense industry to Central and South America.
It is the largest scale ever. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on the 29th, ``Recently, Peru's state-run SIMA shipyard has constructed one 3,400-ton class destroyer, one 2,200-ton class deep-sea patrol ship, and two 1,500-ton class landing ships.
The company has been selected as a candidate for preferential negotiations for joint production of locally built four warships worth a total of $462.9 million (approximately 70 billion yen).
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries began exporting warships to Latin America in 2001 when it delivered a military support ship (10,000 VND class) to Venezuela.
