A man in his 30s who approached his ex-girlfriend, who was trying to sell some clothes he had given her as a gift, pretending to be a buyer, and then assaulted and imprisoned her has been given a suspended prison sentence.
According to the Korean legal community on the 6th, the Namyangju branch of the Uijeongbu District Court sentenced Defendant A (35), who was arrested and indicted on charges of special confinement resulting in injury, to one year in prison with suspended sentence.
The court also ordered Defendant A to be put under probation during the suspended sentence. Defendant A was arrested at Guri, Gyeonggi-do, at around 10:25 a.m. on December 24 last year.
) He was on trial on charges of attacking his former girlfriend, Ms. B (29), in the parking lot of a city building, confining her in a rental car, and threatening her with a deadly weapon.
Defendant A and Ms. B were reported to have broken up after dating from April to October last year.
On the day of the crime, defendant A saw an ad for selling the jumper he had given to B on a second-hand trading platform, and sent a message pretending to be the buyer.
Afterwards, Defendant A strangled B until he lost consciousness, tied him up and confined him in a car. When B woke up and resisted strongly, Defendant A asked, "Do you want to die here?" and pulled out a weapon.
The crime involved threatening the victim with a gun. Mr. B remained calm and persuaded Defendant A, and he was released 20 minutes later. The court ruled that "after confining the victim in his car, he regretted his actions and took her to a safe place of his own volition."
"We have decided to give him a suspended sentence, taking into consideration that he is reflecting on his mistakes, that he has reached a settlement with the victim, and that the victim does not want him to be punished," he said.
