South Korean Foreign Minister: ”Schedule of Japan-China-South Korea summit being finalized”
It has been confirmed that the three nations are finalizing the schedule for their first summit in four years. South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol held a meeting on the issue of trilateral cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 8th.
South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said he made the remarks while meeting with Lee Hee-seop, secretary-general of the Trade Control Service (TCS).
Secretary-General Lee said, "We will make efforts to further strengthen the foundation of trilateral cooperation and
"We will support the successful holding of the Brain Summit," he said. The TCS is an international organization that oversees cooperation between Japan, China and Korea, and supports the operation of various consultation bodies under the umbrella of the tripartite cooperation system and launches cooperation projects.
Since September last year, Secretary-General Lee of South Korea has been leading the TCS. The three countries have agreed to hold a trilateral summit, which has been suspended since December 2019, in Tokyo.
The three countries are currently discussing ways to hold the summit in Seoul at the end of this month. South Korea, which is the chair country, has been making considerable diplomatic efforts to resume the three-way summit.
It has been reported that there has been progress in talks with China, which had been somewhat reluctant. Foreign Minister Cho's statement that "the three countries are finalizing the schedule for the summit" also indicates progress in the talks.
It is interpreted as a suggestion.
