Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo has been criticizing the People Power Party (ruling party) for its crushing defeat in the April 10 general elections.
Mayor Hong posted on his Facebook page on the 14th, "The election is led by the party, and the president has an obligation to remain neutral in the election, so he cannot help with the election.
"If the government were to blame the president, rather than the party, for the crushing defeat, this administration would be thrown into chaos, and the entire ruling party camp would be in a terrible situation," he wrote.
"This important general election was led by people who have never voted before, and a naive political newcomer took a selfie.
"It's foolish for people to think they can win a war by appointing soldiers who have never fired a gun as commanders on the battlefield," he said.
"During the Moon Jae-in administration, I watched in horrible pain as hundreds of members of the People's Power Party were investigated, killed themselves, and arrested one after another for ridiculous reasons.
President Yoon joined the people's power, changed the government, and led the local elections to a landslide victory, but what was Chairman Han, who made us go through hell, thinking when he became the party's emergency response committee chairman?"
Regarding some criticism in the political world that his recent harsh criticism of former Chairman Han is an attempt to drive out a contender in the next presidential election, Mayor Hong said, "That's ridiculous.
"It's just nonsense. Let's live our lives with a little more thought," he said, dismissing the idea.
