Enterprise, and Highlands and Islands Development Authority (HIE).
The company announced that it has partnered with Islands Enterprises to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote a floating offshore wind power project in Scotland.
Through the partnership, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and the two organizations plan to jointly promote a floating offshore wind power generation project in Scotland.
The two companies will share know-how in the design and manufacturing of offshore wind power generation equipment. SE and HIE will explore financial support measures within Scotland, as well as identify suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and other related equipment suppliers.
According to a report by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the total installed capacity of offshore wind power facilities in the world will reach 1.2 billion by 2022.
The capacity of offshore wind power is expected to increase from 63.3 GW in 2017 to 477 GW in 2032. The UK in particular is one of the countries most proactive in offshore wind power generation, and in the past has developed floating offshore wind turbines that utilize strong winds from the North Sea.
The UK government plans to expand offshore wind power capacity from 11GW in 2021 to 50GW in 2030.
