Prime Minister Han Deok-soo: ”When transferring seriously ill patients, the emergency situation room will immediately intervene... Reorganization of the second-former system” = South Korea
In South Korea, as collective actions by doctors protesting against the increase in the number of medical students continue, Prime Minister Han Deok-soo announced that he would reorganize the current system to minimize damage caused by delays in the transportation of emergency patients.
On the 25th, Prime Minister Han visited the Chungcheong Metropolitan Emergency Medical Situation Room and said, "Until now, the transfer of emergency patients has been handled by 119, and transfers between hospitals have been handled by the Emergency Medical Situation Room.
"We will revise the current system so that the emergency medical situation room can immediately intervene in cases of serious illness, even in the case of transfer," he said.
He added, "We will work with local governments to quickly develop specific transfer guidelines that are tailored to the characteristics of each region.
"We will prepare procedures to enable 119 ambulances to select hospitals to transport patients to more quickly and accurately," he added.
Prime Minister Han said, "We have to take responsibility for many emergency patients with a small number of staff.
I am well aware of the difficult conditions that cannot be met. The lives of our citizens may depend on the quick decisions of the emergency medical situation room and 119 ambulances, so I will do my best with a sense of responsibility.
The visit was made to check on the implementation of instructions from the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSHC) and to discuss related matters with on-site personnel.
At the China-China plenary session on the 19th, Prime Minister Han also instructed to strengthen cooperation between 119 ambulances and emergency medical situation rooms from the stage of transporting emergency patients.
