Hanwha Systems to build space center in Jeju, Korea to produce 4-8 satellites per month and also have testing facilities

Hanwha Systems, which is involved in aviation systems business, has recently started construction on the Jeju Hanwha Space Center.
The Jeju Hanwha Space Center, to be built in Seogwipo, Jeju, has a total floor space of 1,000 m2.
The building, with an area of approximately 11,443 square meters, will consist of a satellite development and manufacturing facility with one basement floor and two aboveground floors. It is scheduled for completion in 2025. The first floor will be used for satellite development and assembly, as well as for the development and assembly of satellites and their functions and performance.
The space center will have a control room and offices on the first floor, and a cafeteria and other facilities on the basement floor.
By optimizing the production process, it will be possible to produce 4 to 8 satellites per month.
Two pieces of equipment will be installed for each stage of production, such as thermal vacuum testing to verify operability and near-field testing to verify the performance of satellite antennas at close range, which will shorten the time required for each production stage.
In its space business, Hanwha Systems is conducting research into land, water resources, and forest vegetation through high-resolution satellite image analysis, environmental monitoring, disaster monitoring, and use in the security field, as well as geographic information.
The company plans to focus on revitalizing services that utilize satellite data, such as data analysis for system (GIS) design, and location-based services (LBS) necessary for autonomous driving and smart city construction.
