Han Dong-hoon, former chairman of the People's Power Emergency Response Committee, dismisses rumors of a request to postpone the party convention... Aide: ”It depends on the political situation of the 22nd National Assembly” (Korea)
Han Dong-hoon, former chairman of the People Power Party's emergency response committee, on the 30th dismissed some allegations that he had requested that the next party conference be postponed.
Shin Pyeong, a lawyer who was once called President Yoon Seok-yeol's mentor, said in an interview on YTN radio, "I hope that former Chairman Han will postpone the party conference as long as possible.
"I heard that he asked his close aides, the lawmakers, to do that," he said. In response to Shin's remarks, Han told the media on the same day, "I have never had a similar conversation."
Currently, some in the ruling party have speculated that if the party convention is postponed, former chairman Han, who resigned in response to the disastrous defeat in the April 10 general election, may run for party leader.
It seems that Han also followed this line and argued for the possibility of Han requesting the postponement of the party convention. However, Han gave the same answer to the media when they asked him about the issue, drawing a line under the theory that he would run for party leader for the time being.
Currently, the prevailing view within the party is that if the party convention is held early, it is unlikely that former Chairman Han will run. However, depending on the political situation after the opening of the 22nd National Assembly, it is possible that former Chairman Han will run.
The possibility of him challenging the party chairman cannot be ruled out. If the People Power Party is still unable to fully read the public's will in the general election and show a changed image, Han could once again play the role of relief.
A lawmaker who is a close aide to Han told Herald Business, "People around him think it is not right for him to attend the party conference at this time.
"However, if the party does not send out a clear message after the 22nd National Assembly opens, public opinion may call for (former Chairman Han)," he said.
Since resigning from his position as emergency response committee chairman on the 11th, Han has not engaged in any political activities except for holding a private dinner with emergency response committee members.
