This is thought to mean that "one of the reasons for the defeat is the government's direction in running national affairs and the relationship between the ruling party and the government."
The Task Force held its first meeting on the 2nd at the ruling party building in Seoul and announced the results of the April 10 general elections.
The TF has begun a full-scale analysis of the cause of the defeat in the general election. In a meeting held on that day, the TF gathered all the candidates of the ruling party, their aides, party officials, reporters, and other people who had been closely involved in the election situation, to analyze the cause of the defeat in the general election.
In a press conference after the meeting, Rep. Cho Jeong-hoon, chairman of the Task Force, said, "We will investigate all 254 ruling party candidates running in the general election, all 2,400 staff in the party secretariat, and all aides to National Assembly members.
"We will be conducting a survey of over 680 members of the ruling party's staff and all members of the party's press corps, and will be conducting an in-depth discussion on the specific reasons for the defeat in the general election and the direction we should take going forward," he said.
Rep. Cho explained, "The investigation will be carried out for about a week from the 3rd of this month, and the results will be announced once it's finished."
He added, "The Task Force may also conduct closed-door in-depth interviews with former emergency response committee chairman Han Dong-hoon and the President's Office."
"After the investigation, in-depth interviews will be conducted," Cho said. "If necessary, we will appoint the chairman of the Public Election Management Committee, the chairman of the Policy Committee, the chairman of the Emergency Response Committee, and the head of the Yeouido Research Council.
"We plan to hold closed-door in-depth interviews with the president and other people in the presidential office to gather diverse opinions," he said. The TF will complete a series of steps by the middle of next month, including analyzing the reasons for the defeat in the general election and formulating reform plans.
"We will present our reform plan at the party convention, which is expected to be held in late June or early July, and the convention will decide which candidates will be the foundation of the party," Cho said.
"We want this to be a forum for discussing how to make solid improvements."
