Hamas posted a statement on its website on the same day saying, "Hamas's supreme political leader, Ismael HANI,
"The director informed him of his decision to accept the ceasefire proposal made by the Qatari prime minister and the Egyptian intelligence chief," the statement said, adding, "The terms are based on the plan prepared by Qatar and Egypt, which have acted as mediators."
The truce plan he accepted includes a ceasefire, reconstruction, the return of displaced people to their homes, and the exchange of hostages and prisoners.
"The ceasefire will be in three phases of 42 days each, with the second phase including a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip," Khalil al-Hayya, a Palestinian official, said in an interview with Al Jazeera.
"The final goal is a permanent ceasefire," he said. Al-Hayya said the first phase of the ceasefire would involve the liberation of Israeli civilians, while the third and final phase would see Israel and Palestine annexing the region.
