This year's Labor Day season saw an explosive growth in China's domestic consumer market. According to estimates by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the total number of domestic travelers in China during the Labor Day season increased by 7.6% compared to the same period last year.
The total amount of domestic travel spending is expected to reach 166.89 billion yen (approximately 3.63 trillion yen), up 12.7% from the previous year. This is the first time that the COVID-19 virus has spread.
This is a 13.5% increase from the same period in 2019. Looking at consumption data from each region, Shanghai saw the largest increase in online and offline consumption during the Labor Day season (April 30 to May 4).
The total sales of 440 key commercial and trade enterprises monitored in Zhejiang Province during the same season reached 3.3 billion yen.
The company announced that sales were 383 million former (approximately 74 billion yen), up 7.9% from the same period last year and 16.5% from the same period in 2019.
However, tourism revenues in the Guangdong area fell due to continued bad weather during the holiday period.
According to estimates, a total of 38,819,000 tourists visited Guangdong Province from May 1 to 5, recording a total consumption of 24.52 billion former (about 535 billion yen).

According to the online travel agency "Tongcheng Travel," reservations for hotels and tourist attractions in cities below the third tier in the northeastern and western regions during the same season increased by 10% compared to the previous year.
This is an increase of more than 100% compared to the same period last year, indicating growing interest in traveling to small cities.
