A man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of killing his girlfriend on the roof of a building and then jumping off the building to cause a commotion has been identified as a medical student after an investigation.
The Seocho Police Station in Seoul requested an arrest warrant for suspect A (25), who was arrested on the 7th on suspicion of murder. Suspect A was arrested at 4 p.m. on the 6th.
He is suspected of stabbing his girlfriend, Ms. B, who was the same age as him, to death with a knife on the rooftop of a 15-story building near the Gangnam Station intersection in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul around 2018.
It was revealed that suspect A had a perfect score on the college entrance exam in the past and was currently enrolled in the medical school of a prestigious university in Seoul.
At around 5:20 pm on the previous day, the police received a report that "a man was about to jump off the roof," and they responded to the scene and prevented suspect A from jumping.
Based on suspect A's statement that "he left his belongings behind," the scene was checked and Mr. B was found, and suspect A was arrested on an emergency basis at around 6:00 p.m.
When he was discovered, Mr B was already deceased.
During police questioning, suspect A admitted to the crime, saying, "I stabbed her with a knife because she said she wanted to break up with me."
It was revealed that the suspect was not using drugs or drinking alcohol at the time of the crime. The murder weapon was purchased at a large supermarket in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
After purchasing the murder weapon, suspect A called Ms. B to the roof of the building. The roof of this building was a place where suspect A and Ms. B often visited when they were dating, and it was usually open to the public.
A police source said, "We cannot disclose detailed information about the investigation, such as the motive, out of consideration for the bereaved family."
