Ahn Cheol-soo, People's Power lawmaker: ”Former emergency response committee chairman Han Dong-hoon should have stepped down in principle” (South Korea)
Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the ruling People's Power Party, said on the 9th, "I will think about running for office at a party convention later if the rules are set to some extent, but I am not considering running at all right now."
Regarding whether former emergency response chief Han Dong-hoon, who has been the focus of attention in the ruling party camp recently, will run for office, he said, "In principle, it is best for him to step aside for the time being.
That's right." In an interview with Channel A's Political Signal that morning, Rep. Ahn responded to a question about whether he would run for the party convention by saying, "I'm not thinking about it now." However, he said, "I might think about it later."
This is because the party constitution and rules state that 100% of party members must vote, and there is a clause separating party powers and presidential elections.
Regarding the possibility of former Chairman Han appearing at the party convention, he said, "It is entirely up to him to decide," but
"In principle, it is true that he should step down for the time being," he said. Ahn recently said that Lee Jun-seok, chairman of the New Reform Party, had said that he would be the first to return to politics at the time.
Regarding Han's mention of local elections, he asked, "Does he mean to run in the presidential election next, or will he pass this presidential election and become a leader of a regional organization that can function to some extent?"
"There are various variables to consider, such as whether or not he will challenge after showing results," he said. On the same day, Rep. Ahn pointed out that one of the reasons for the crushing defeat in the April 10 general election was the "Lee Jae-in administration" proposed by former Chairman Han.
Rep. Ahn said, "The ruling party competes with its vision for the future, while the opposition party competes by attacking and criticizing the ruling party. This is the basic election strategy.
It is natural for the opposition party to criticize the ruling party in cases like the Lee Jae-myung and Cho Kuk trial controversy, but if the ruling party only criticizes the opposition party and makes almost no mention of the people's livelihood, the public will be dissatisfied with the three parties.
"This will lead to a transformation," he said.
