No unusual incident... Rep. Choo Kyung-ho elected as floor leader of People's Power Party (Korea)
Following the devastating defeat in the April 10 general election, Rep. Choo Kyung-ho (elected for a third term) was elected as the floor leader of the People Power Party (ruling party) on the 9th.
The People's Power House floor leader election commissioner Lee Yang-soo said that the vote for the floor leader election was held that afternoon.
At the general meeting of the winners, "Of the total 102 votes, candidate No. 1 Lee Jong-bae received 21 votes, candidate No. 2 Choo Kyung-ho received 70 votes, and candidate No. 3 Song Seok-jun received 11 votes. Candidate Choo Kyung-ho received 11 votes.
"I received more than half of the votes," he said. Rep. Aki, who was elected as the new floor leader with a majority of the votes, said, "I received support from the people who came to me in my time of need, and I am now the first person to be elected in the 22nd National Assembly.
"I am truly grateful to have been appointed floor leader for the first time," he said. "We must become a capable party that can support the people and implement policies. We must become a powerful party, and through this, we can win the local elections, the presidential elections, and so on.
"I will definitely achieve victory in the election," he said. Rep. Choo served as the first deputy prime minister and minister of Strategy and Finance in the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and is classified as pro-Yoon Seok-yeol, but is relatively unaffiliated.
He is considered to be a legitimate economic bureaucrat who served in the Economic Planning Board, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and the Financial Services Commission. In the Lee Myung-bak administration, he served as the Presidential Secretary for Economic and Financial Affairs and Director of the Office for Emergency Economic Affairs.
He also served as First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and Director-General of the Office for Government Policy Coordination in the Park Geun-hye administration.
He entered central politics in 2016 through the 20th general election, and continued to serve until the 22nd general election in April this year.
Prior to this, he served in important positions such as secretary of the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee, vice chairman of the party's policy committee, president of the Yeouido Research Institute, vice president for strategic planning, and senior deputy floor leader.
