The reasons for divorce of so-called "returning couples" who got married and then divorced have been made public. On the 11th of this month, remarriage information company Only You and marriage information company Piernale conducted a survey of remarriage-seeking couples from around the country.
The survey results of 556 people were released regarding their perceptions of "the good points of former spouses that caused divorce." The survey results showed that 28.4% of men who returned to their wives said, "My spouse is becoming more and more successful."
This was followed by communication skills (25.2%), attractive looks (20.9%), and an active personality (17.9%).
Song Dong-kyu, CEO of Only U, said, "If you become increasingly successful at work and your self-esteem rises, it can lead to discomfort with your spouse, and strong self-confidence is a risk factor.
"It can put stress on the spouse and lead to conflict between them," he explained. Meanwhile, women said that "overly stylish manners" are not a positive thing for their spouse and could be the cause of divorce.
This was the most common answer, with 29.1% of respondents choosing this option, followed by steady success (24.8%), communication skills (20.1%), and attractive looks (17.4%).
"If a man shows sophisticated manners in social life, it can become a risk factor for married life because it makes women more attracted to him," Song said.
In the same JeeAn survey, when asked, "What did you think was your former spouse's strength when you married them, but it turned out to be a weakness after marriage?" 32% of men who had returned to their wives answered, "Sophisticated clothing."
Other reasons included "good at getting along with people" (23.0%), "kind and compassionate" (20.9%) and "multitalented" (16.2%).
Among the returning female respondents, 33.1% answered "multi-talented."
This was followed by "sophisticated attire" (25.5%), "refreshing personality" (19.1%), and "good social skills" (15.8%).
