Former People's Power Official Management Committee Chairman Chung Yong-hwan: ”Former emergency response committee chairman Han Dong-hoon made a big contribution to the general election...If there is any responsibility, President Yoon Seok-yeol should also be held accountable” (South Korea)
On the 17th, Chung Yong Hwa, former chairman of the People's Power (ruling party) Certification Management Committee, responded to the argument that Han Dong-hoon was responsible for the general election defeat by saying, "There is no responsibility for Han Dong-hoon, the former emergency response committee chairman.
"If that happens, I will take 100% responsibility, and President Yoon Seok-yeol will take 100% responsibility," Chung said.
In response, he analyzed, "Maybe it was worth trying (the situation regarding the general election) until the very end. (Former Chairman Han) made a big contribution to the general election. In the end, the party missed out on the finer details of the people."
Regarding the disappointment in the nomination process, Chung said, “The function of the Yeouido Institute needs to be strengthened.” The Yeouido Institute is a think tank for the People Power Party and has been operating independently during the general election process.
He is in charge of opinion polls and situation analysis, but it is said that he did not convey the results of opinion polls to the candidate camps in this general election.
Former Chairman Chung gave the newly introduced national recommendation system a score of 50.
"The idea was good, but it was a bit difficult to summon (the talent) in such a short time. In the end we won, but I'd give it a score of 50."
Chairman Chung attended the National Assembly's Special Committee on the General Election White Paper that afternoon.
Rep. Yeol-gyu and Rep. Lee Jong-seong were also in attendance. In his opening remarks at the meeting, Jeong said, "In the end, we were unable to win the general election and there were areas where we were lacking, but we will use this opportunity to improve our system.
"I think that this is a step toward establishing the minimum foundation for the nomination," said Rep. Lee Cheol-gyu. "One thing that is unfortunate about the process of creating the White Paper for the General Election is that it does not attack or take responsibility for anyone.
"I think that (the general election white paper) is a record to be kept and evaluated so that the same mistakes are not repeated, as there will be more elections in the future."
