OECD launches ”Digital Society Initiative,” established under South Korea's initiative - South Korean media
The Ministry of Science, ICT and Technology of South Korea announced that South Korea and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have jointly launched the Digital Society Initiative.
The OECD will create a network for member countries to cooperate on digital norms, in order to seek a direction for future discussions on artificial intelligence (AI), digital norms, governance, etc.
The initiative was established in 2016 under the leadership of Korea. Participating countries in the initiative hold regular meetings to discuss the impact of digitalization on the world based on the analysis of the current state of response to the digital society by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Korea will diagnose the impact of digitalization on the digital economy and share the current state of response, laws, systems, and policies of each country. Korea will take the lead in holding discussions on digital regulations among OECD member countries, centering on Korea's "Digital Bill of Rights."
The first working-level meeting is scheduled for mid-June. Meanwhile, the ministry will host the AI Seoul Summit and AI Global Forum with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs over two days starting on the 21st.
The AI Seoul Summit, co-hosted by South Korea and the UK, will be held in the form of a video conference and will include leaders of major countries, heads of international organizations, and representatives of big tech companies.
Executives from Microsoft, OpenAI, DeepMind Technologies, and other companies are scheduled to visit Korea to participate in the event.
