Attempting to seize copyright? KOFIC launches investigation into Lee Je Hoon & Yoo Hae Jin's film ”Moral Hazard”

The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) is launching an investigation into the long-running film "Moral Hazard" (directed by Choi Yun-jin) over allegations of script theft.
Another script that the director was preparing to produce, "Deep Sea," will also be investigated by KOFIC.
In an interview with A, he said, "It is true that we have decided to investigate 'Moral Hazard' and 'Deep Sea.' We will decide on a meeting schedule around next week and begin discussions."

"Deep Sea" was under suspicion of theft of the screenplay copyright due to revelations and allegations by the Korea Scriptwriters Union and the production company earlier this year. In response, director Choi Yun-jin said that she had made the decision to adjust the credits.
KOFIC has argued that the issue is the tyranny of major production companies. KOFIC will leave the legal dispute between the two parties regarding copyright infringement of the two works to the courts, but will not take any action against them in the future.
The Fair Environment Center said, "After carefully examining the matter in accordance with the steering committee rules, we found that there was no unfair conduct."

"We are in a difficult situation. In particular, 'Moral Hazard' is a large-scale production with a production budget of over 10 billion won (approximately 1 billion yen), so it is unacceptable that it cannot be released as it is," said the investigation.
He explained the importance of the investigation, saying, "I will organize as many opinions as possible that are as objective and fair as possible and that are of public interest, and then identify and present the best possible method for resolving the dispute."
