Emergency medicine doctors appeal to President Yoon Seok-yeol to ”listen to the voices of those on the front lines” (South Korea)
"Please find out why these young doctors, who were proud to be working on the front lines of emergency medical care that directly impacts the lives of patients, were the first to submit their resignations."
Lee Hyun-min, chairman of the Korean Association of Emergency Medicine Doctors, and resigned emergency medicine specialists met at the Seoul Yongsan Presidential
He announced that he would deliver a letter and a collection of memoirs, "Emergency Room, Our 24 Hours," to President Yoon Seok-yeol through the office's petition section.
The medical residents wrote in a letter: "The other day, we saw a notice on the electronic bulletin board at Seoul Station.
"I saw the promotional ad for the health insurance program. It repeatedly aired the message that the government would definitely complete healthcare reform for the people, and I felt that the government's commitment to healthcare reform was firm," he said.
He continued, "Even patients are coming to Seoul because they cannot trust public or local medical services, and at this time, patients and medical staff need to be able to trust each other.
"Unless the medical and educational environment and the institutional foundation for receiving appropriate treatment are established, the direction of medical reform that the government is aiming for will not be achieved," he emphasized.
"Young doctors want the policy direction to be decided based on clear principles and concrete, detailed reasons, and have requested a fresh discussion from the ground up.
This is because we want medical staff to continue to do their best alongside patients, and we want the voices of those on the front lines to be heard, rather than simply being unconditionally opposed."
He added, "I want you to investigate why these young doctors, who were working with pride on the front lines of emergency medical care, which is directly related to the lives of patients, were the first to submit their resignations.
"We hope that medical reform will be carried out carefully, based on opinions and scientific evidence," they said. The book they are releasing along with their letter, "Emergency Room, Our 24 Hours," was written by five emergency medicine doctors.
It is a collection of notes that includes the experiences and thoughts of the four men.
