President Yoon appoints ”Park Geun-hye's closest aide” who was previously investigated as secretary (South Korea)
Jeong Ho-seong, former secretary to the South Korean president Park Geun-hye and one of her closest aides during her presidency, has been appointed presidential secretary to the Yoon Seok-yeol administration.
A presidential office official explained on the 24th, "Former Secretary Jeong will likely begin work as third secretary in the Office of Chief Civil Society soon."
Chung, who was one of Park Geun-hye's closest aides during the administration, was arrested in connection with the NIS special activities fund surrender scandal.
At the time, President Yoon was the chief of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and directly led the investigation into alleged interference in state affairs involving former Secretary-General Jeong and others.
Meanwhile, President Yoon reinstated former Secretary-General Chung through a special pardon in 2022, his first year in office.
The presidential office is said to have highly praised Chung's experience working at the presidential office and selected her for another term as secretary.
However, some have pointed out that the appointment of former Secretary-General Chung, who was involved in the government corruption scandal, was inappropriate.
