South Korean Defense Minister meets with U.S. think tank delegation... Empathizes with ”development into a science and technology alliance”
South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik met with a delegation from the U.S. think tank RAND Corporation, led by Director Jason Matheny, on the 23rd to discuss ways to develop the U.S.-ROK alliance.
The RAND Corporation is a leading American think tank based in California, and conducts research in a wide range of fields, including national security, health, and education.
"In order to strengthen the ROK-U.S. alliance, it is important to have exchanges and cooperation in various fields, such as research institutions, in addition to cooperation between the ROK and U.S. governments," Defense Minister Shin said.
The RAND delegation expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the RAND Corporation to strengthen the US-ROK alliance. The RAND delegation said, "The US-ROK alliance was established last year based on the Washington Declaration and the Camp David Accords, and is a landmark effort to strengthen the alliance.
"The two sides agreed on the need to develop a science and technology alliance between the United States and the ROK, and to strengthen cooperation in various fields," he said.
"We shared our efforts to cooperate on science and technology and the defense industry, and we believe that cooperation between the two countries will contribute to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region," Shin said.
"Through this visit to Korea, we were able to reaffirm our vision for the sustainable development of the U.S.-ROK alliance," the delegation said, adding, "We will continue to actively support the development of the U.S.-ROK alliance."
