On the 26th, South Korean President Yoon Seok-youl held a Japan-South Korea summit meeting with Prime Minister Kishida at the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul, and stated, "Let's take Japan-South Korea relations to the next level."
President Yoon met with Prime Minister Kishida, who visited South Korea on the occasion of the 9th Japan-China-South Korea Summit, on the afternoon of the 26th. This was the first Japan-South Korea summit held this year.
The two leaders held talks while attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco. President Yoon began by saying, "I wholeheartedly welcome Prime Minister Kishida's visit to Korea for the first time in a year."
President Yoon commented on the continuation of Japan-Korea shuttle diplomacy, saying, "As we two agreed in Tokyo in March last year and in Vilnius, Lithuania in July last year, we will continue to hold intergovernmental agreements.

"I would like to express my heartfelt respect and gratitude to both sides," he said. Prime Minister Kishida also emphasized the success of the shuttle diplomacy, saying, "I've counted and this is the 10th meeting between Japan and South Korea, a face-to-face meeting."
At the same time, he proposed that "we will continue shuttle diplomacy based on normal trust." Prime Minister Kishida also said, "I would like both governments to make preparations for the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea next year."
