On the 27th, the Jincheon Police Station in Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea, issued a road traffic
It has been revealed that an arrest warrant has been applied for the boyfriend, Mr. A (in his 20s), on suspicion of drunk driving, attempted insurance fraud, and aiding a criminal in escaping, and his girlfriend, Ms. B (in her 20s), on suspicion of drunk driving, property damage, and aiding a criminal in escaping.
According to the police, they were involved in a crash at 5:45 a.m. on the 29th of last month when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) made a right turn at an intersection in Jincheon County at a speed of 70 kilometers per hour and crashed into a shopping mall on the opposite side.
At the time, there was no one in the shopping district or on the street, and no one was injured, but two stores were severely damaged, causing property damage worth 70 million won (approximately 8.05 million yen).
Immediately after the accident, Mr. A got out of the vehicle and told the police that he had been drinking and was driving a rental car when the accident occurred.
The concentration of alcohol in the car was 0.08%, which is the level at which a driver's license will be revoked. However, the police investigation revealed that the actual driver at the time of the accident was his girlfriend, Ms. B, who was a passenger in the car.
When the police analyzed the surveillance camera footage along the route of the vehicle, it became clear that Mr. A was driving the vehicle, but stopped midway and switched seats with Mr. B.
At the time of the accident, Mr. B was not given a breathalyzer test, but a review of the security camera footage from the restaurant where they had been drinking just before renting the car revealed that Mr. B had also been drinking at a level that would result in his license being revoked.
During police investigation, Mr. A said, "I remembered that she had always wanted to try driving, so I asked her if she wanted to try it," and "I was trying to get compensation for the accident, so I asked her if she wanted to try driving."
A police official said, "Neither of them has a criminal record, but they were unable to come to an agreement with the owner and recently singer Kim Ho Joong was arrested for drunk driving."
"We applied for a warrant considering that there is a high level of social vigilance regarding cases in which drivers flee after causing a drunk accident, such as when a suspect is arrested after switching drivers' names after a drunk driving incident."
