Na Kyung-wan, the People's Power Elect, said, ”Constitutional reform discussions that shake up the president are no good... 5-year term is the rule” = South Korea
On the 28th, Na Kyung-won, the People Power Party's elected representative, said, "We need to open up everything, including shortening the presidential term, and discuss constitutional reform."
On the 28th, President-elect Na wrote on Facebook, "The constitutional amendment debate is being carried out with political motives to shake up the president and the current administration.
"I also oppose it. I firmly reject the claims of some opposition parties who are cleverly hiding their ambitions of impeachment under the guise of constitutional amendments," he said. "He is the president directly elected by the people. The five-year term is the principle and foundation.
"The constitutional amendment that we should discuss is not for political disputes but for the future, not for division but for national unity, not for the selfish interests of the opposition party but for national renewal," he said.
"The key to this is constitutional reform. And the core of this is a revolutionary reform of the power structure," he said. "Reform that restructures the politics of the Republic of Korea into a productive order of dialogue and cooperation and institutionalizes the values of decentralization and balance is essential.
"We need a new constitution. Our politics must focus on this historic calling," he said. "That is why I said we need to discuss constitutional reform. For the future of the people and the nation,
Prior to this, at a discussion hosted by the Korea Newspaper and Broadcasting Editors Association the day before, President-elect Na said, "I have heard that they are discussing a four-year re-election system and also discussing shortening the presidential term.
"We need to be careful about what we say going forward because it's an area that requires a critical decision, but when it comes to discussing constitutional reform, we need to be open about it all," he said.
In response, Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People's Power Party, said at a floor countermeasure meeting that day, "The term of the incumbent president should be shortened.
Yoon Sang Hyun, a lawmaker from the People's Power Party, wrote on Facebook, "The current argument for shortening the term of office is being pushed by the Democratic Party and the Fatherland Reform Party.
This is an instigation frame to bring down the Yoon Seok-yeol government as soon as possible. I am also a supporter of constitutional reform, but the current proposal to shorten the term of office is a typical example of bad politics that has no regard for either purity or the future of the nation.
The moment we go along with this, the Yoon administration will be humiliated and drawn into a trap, and will be forced to take down its name as the ruling party."
