South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol: ”Strengthen cooperation and contribute to the implementation of Sierra Leone's national development plan”
On the 31st, President Yoon Seok-yeol held a lunch meeting with Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone, who is visiting Korea to attend the Korea-Africa Summit.
The two leaders agreed to use this opportunity to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two countries, which has been steadily growing since the normalization of diplomatic relations in 1962, particularly in the areas of economy, agriculture and education.
President Yoon said, "Strengthening cooperation between the two countries in various fields will contribute to the implementation of Sierra Leone's medium-term national development plan (2024-2030), which was established based on the Korean development model."
The two leaders also stated that they hope that the Trade and Investment Facilitation Framework (TIPF) concluded today will serve as a foundation for diversifying trade items and promoting mutually beneficial investment cooperation.
They also welcomed Sierra Leone's participation in the K-Rice Belt Project last October and agreed to further expand cooperation between the two countries in the agricultural sector.
President Bio expressed his appreciation for Korea's contribution to the economic and social development of Sierra Leone through development cooperation projects in various fields, including education and health.
The two leaders expressed their gratitude to the two leaders for their continued support for the two countries' future generations. They also expressed their hope that exchanges between the future generations of the two countries will continue to expand.
In particular, the two leaders expressed concern over North Korea's continued provocations and called for the UN Security Council to take measures to protect the interests of the two countries.
The presidential office said on the same day that they agreed with the need to thoroughly implement the U.S. sanctions against North Korea.
