China's AliExpress finds cadmium levels four times the standard in its rice bowls this time - Korea

Cadmium at more than four times the legal limit was found in enamel tea bowls sold on the Chinese e-commerce site AliExpress.

Since April of this year, the city has been conducting weekly safety inspections of products purchased directly from overseas that it believes may pose a threat to the health and safety of its residents, and making the results public.
Until now, testing has mainly been conducted on children's products, but this time the scope of testing has been expanded to include food containers and other items that may have a direct impact on the human body.
The city is investigating the kitchen and food containers sold by China's three major e-commerce sites (AliExpress, Tiempo, and Shiyin) that are mostly used by domestic consumers.
The city government has selected 140 products to purchase and has been conducting testing at the Institute of Public Health and Environment since April. The city government said it will announce the results of testing 58 of these products, which were completed by the end of last month.
Of the 58 products, the one in which harmful substances were detected was a type of enamel tea bowl sold on AliExpress, which contained 4.14 times (0.07 milligrams/liter) the standard value.
The researchers found levels of cadmium as high as 29 milligrams per liter, a harmful substance that can damage the kidneys and reduce bone density and strength when ingested.
The city plans to request overseas online platforms to stop selling products that have been confirmed to be harmful.
