China Eastern Airlines to build Asia's largest aircraft maintenance facility in Shanghai's Lingang New Area - Chinese media

On the 3rd, construction began on China Eastern Airlines' international aviation maintenance service project at the Yangshan Special Comprehensive Bonded Zone in the Lingang New Area of the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone, China.
The project will build an aircraft maintenance facility with a total construction area of more than 110,000 square meters, including three hangars and an aircraft maintenance facility.
A maintenance, repair and improvement workshop will be built with a total investment of more than 1.5 billion former (approximately 32.4 billion yen), and is scheduled to be completed and handed over in the first half of 2026.
Hangar No. 1 is one of the largest in Asia, with a hangar hall 316 meters wide and 146 meters deep.
The facility will be capable of storing and servicing nine wide-body aircraft simultaneously. China Eastern Airlines said, "Once this aircraft maintenance facility is completed, we will be able to provide high-quality, comprehensive maintenance services to our domestic and international customers (airlines)."
"We will be able to provide comprehensive maintenance, repair and improvement services," he said. Meanwhile, China Eastern Airlines and Lingang New Area signed a strategic cooperation agreement in June 2022, and will invest a total of 22 billion former (about 480 billion yen).
The international aviation maintenance service project is the first of seven projects announced by the company, which will total more than 10,000 employees.
