”Broken nose and bleeding”...Drunk man assaults taxi driver in South Korea
A case was reported in which a taxi driver in his 70s in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, was assaulted by a passenger and suffered injuries including a broken nose.
On the 6th, a post was made on an online community site with the title, "I am the son of the taxi driver involved in the Pohang taxi driver assault case."
According to creator A, who said he was the driver's son, taxi driver B picked up a passenger in Pohang on the 31st of last month. The passenger was sitting next to B.
He sat down and said, "Let's go to Hunghae." As they approached their destination, he asked, "Have you ever been beaten by a customer?" B replied, "No, I haven't," and said, "We've arrived, so I don't want to pay the fare."
When B said that he was going to pay the fare, the passenger pretended to go to sleep without paying. B was so shocked by the passenger's rude behavior that he drove off to the police station. The passenger then stole a bag containing money that was near the shift lever.
When B tried to stop him, they started fighting. A claims that the passenger threw a bag containing money towards the driver's seat, obstructing the movement of the bus, and so A started assaulting him.
According to Ms. A, the passenger grabbed Ms. B's ear and pulled it, then punched her in the face with his fist. He also attacked Ms. B in the face with a sharp object, such as a car key, and pulled her hair.
It was reported that B was unable to let go of the wheel at this moment to prevent a second accident, and suffered further damage. B finally parked the car on a deserted road and called the police.
He told the police that he had injured his finger and claimed that it was a case of mutual assault. Mr. A said, "I don't understand how this can be considered a case of mutual assault when my father was the only one to be harmed."
"The father did not have the time to attack the finger, and there is no evidence of any assault," he said, emphasizing that "even looking at the dashcam footage alone it was a one-sided assault."
B will undergo suture surgery in Daegu on the 1st, and surgery for a broken nose is scheduled for the 7th.
In the photos released at the time of the incident, B's face was bloodied from his nose and around his eyes. In an interview with Channel A, the passenger in question admitted that it was true that he was drunk.
He then claimed that he had also been assaulted, saying, "I was not the one who hit him. Mr. B did not go to his destination properly and a fight ensued."
