US politician: Nigeria's government should intervene in 'unjust detention of Binance executives'
US politicians are calling on the Joe Biden administration to intervene to secure the release of an executive from Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, who has been detained in Nigeria.
According to CryptoPotato, on the 5th (local time), US politicians met with Tigran Ghanbaryan, Binance's compliance officer and former IRS agent.
Criticizing Nigeria for its detention of Tigran Gambaryan, the UN chief expressed concern that he was being detained on unfounded charges.

The letter, led by Chairman McCaul, R-Texas, and supported by 11 congressional leaders,
"We demand that the US government treat the situation as a hostage crisis and take immediate action," the lawmakers wrote in the letter. "The Nigerian government must take legal action in court to try to pressure Gambarian into providing leverage to Binance."
"They openly admitted that they were using it as a means to protect the country," he said. Gambarian's legal representatives had to conduct the meeting under the supervision of government officials and armed guards.
Gambarian's health also deteriorated during his detention, collapsing in court on May 24 and later testing positive for malaria.

"Clearly, Mr. Gambarian is a U.S. citizen who has been unjustly detained by the Nigerian government," he said, adding that U.S. intervention was necessary.
Meanwhile, Binance and Ghanbarian are accused of money laundering and tax evasion by Nigerian authorities.
Nadeem Anjarwalla managed to escape detention.
