<Women's Golf> Park Min-ji makes history by becoming the first player to win four consecutive championships in a single KLPGA tournament, donating her prize money
Park Min-ji (25) has become the first player in history to win a single tournament four times in a row on the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour.
Park Min Ji was in Yangyang, Gangwon Province on the 9th.
The KLPGA Tour's "2024 Celltrion Queen's Masters" (total prize money of 1.2 billion won/approximately 137 million yen) concluded at Solhyewon CC, with "wire-to-wire"
Park Min-ji has now achieved the feat of winning the championship trophy four years in a row since her first victory in the tournament in 2021. No one has ever won a single tournament four times in a row on the KLPGA Tour.
It was an unknown territory that she had never experienced before. Prior to this, the players who had won a single tournament three times in a row in the KLPGA included Park Min-ji, the late Koo Ok-hee (former KLPGA president), and Park Se-ri.
Previous winners included Kang SooYeon, Kim Hyeri, but Park Min-ji is the first to win four consecutive tournaments. Park Min-ji also won her first tournament of the season and recorded her 19th victory overall, making her the most ever on the KLPGA Tour.
Park Min-ji won the championship prize of 216 million won and also secured the 300 million won prize offered by the tournament organizers.
Park Min-ji said she would donate the entire prize money of 216 million won, saying, "If I had won, I definitely wanted to donate the entire prize money, but it took so long.
"It seems like I was able to win the championship. So this victory is more meaningful and meaningful," he said. Lee JeYeon made an eagle and a hole-in-one and started to chase after the leader, but he lost the lead at the 10th hole.
However, they were unable to surpass Park Min-ji's calm gameplay. Park Min-ji said at the press conference after the victory, "I really didn't think I would achieve four consecutive victories. I felt pressure.
It was only a week, but I think it's amazing that I was able to complete it," he said. "I wasn't nervous at all until the morning, and I was humming a song when I came out, but when I practiced, the feeling of my putts was so good that I couldn't believe my eyes.
"I was taking deep breaths throughout each hole and telling myself, 'I'll think about the basics,' and in the second half, I actually ended up doing very well.
"I thought, 'God has helped me.'" Park Min-ji, who is one win away from reaching 20 wins on the KLPGA Tour, responded to the question, "When will it be possible?" by saying, "For now, I'm going to focus on putting.
"I think if I practice a lot, it will be possible soon. I want to achieve it by the end of the year," he said confidently.
