South Korean prosecutors reassign investigation division over allegations of First Lady Kim Jong-sook's visit to the Taj Mahal (South Korea)
South Korean prosecutors have changed the investigation department into the case involving Kim Jung-sook, the wife of former President Moon Jae-in, visiting the Taj Mahal in India.
On the 11th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office reassigned the case involving Mrs. Kim Jung-sook, which had been assigned to the First Criminal Division, to the Second Criminal Division.
A prosecutor said, "We took into consideration the workload of the departments under the first deputy chief and the status of the investigation into the case.
The First Criminal Division is currently investigating allegations that Kim Geon-hee, the wife of President Yoon Seok-yeol, received branded baggi.
Considering that a special investigation team has been set up under the direction of Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok, it is believed that the burden would be increased if the case involving Mrs. Kim Jong-sook were to be taken on as well.
Prior to this, Lee Jung-bae, a member of the ruling People Power Party's Seoul City Council, said of Kim Jong-sook's exclusive visit to the Taj Mahal in India in 2018, "It was essentially a tourist trip.
In December last year, Kim Jong-suk was charged with abuse of power, obstruction of the exercise of rights, and loss of national treasury under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specified Crimes, for the purpose of setting aside 400 million won (approximately 45.58 million yen) in reserve funds and going on overseas business trips.
In a dialogue-style memoir published last month, former President Moon said, "Mrs. Kim's visit to India was an official diplomatic activity at the invitation of the Indian government."
They are releasing the following.
