”Isn't that person a member of the National Assembly?” - Reports of Reform Party lawmaker Lee sleeping on a subway train spread in South Korea
Eyewitness accounts of people seeing Rep. Lee Jun-seok of the New Reform Party asleep while leaning on the passenger seat next to him on the subway after finishing a day's schedule have been drawing attention.
On the 13th, a photo of Rep. Lee, which was reportedly taken on the subway the previous day, became a hot topic among residents of Dongtan New City, which is part of Rep. Lee's constituency.
The exact location where the photo was taken is unknown, but it is believed to have been taken inside the GTX, a car that Rep. Lee often uses.
The photo quickly spread in the Hwaseong area and among Lee's supporters. Since his days as the People's Power Representative, Lee has been a frequent user of the subway and the Seoul City public bicycle rental service "Daerungi"
Rep. Lee, who commutes to the National Assembly in a Hyundai Ioniq, was found to be driving only his own car, and did not have a vehicle from his office or a dedicated aide to accompany him.
In this situation, there are occasional reports of sightings of Rep. Lee on the subway. Recently, a person on X (formerly Twitter) reported that "there was a cell phone case with 'Hwaseong City Councilman Lee Jun-seok' written on it,"
A passenger posted a message saying that he had greeted Rep. Lee. Residents of the Hwaseong area who saw the photo of Rep. Lee commented, "The assemblyman commutes to work on public transport with the citizens.
Responses included, "I wonder how many people there are," "It's cool that he's making an effort to use public transportation," and "Unlike lawmakers who choose the most convenient route, it's great that he's on the side of the people and is sympathetic to them."
The Marcos Benjamin Lee community, where supporters of Rep. Lee gather, has mostly given positive reviews, such as "I saw a real congressman." Recently, he helped find a local resident who had gone missing.
Rep. Lee, who posted on social media that he hoped the resident would be taken care of, said he had received the news that the resident had returned home safely and expressed his gratitude to the people who had helped and shown concern for him.
It shows love and concern for the area.
