<Men's Golf> Takashi Ogiso achieves his long-awaited first victory! ... Kazutaka Higa and Koshiro Maeda tied for third place at the Hana Bank Invitational
Japan's Takashi Ogiso beat South Korea's Jang Yu-bin, who had been in hot pursuit on the final day of the Hana Bank Invitational (total prize money of 1.3 billion won/approximately 140 million yen), by one stroke.
On the 16th, Ogiso won her first championship in the fourth round of the final day of the tournament held at Namchuncheon Country Club in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, scoring five birdies and two strokes.
Gee recorded a total score of 14 under par and won the porcelain-themed championship cup and 260 million won (approximately 30 million yen) in prize money.
Jang Yu-bin made a comeback on the final day with 7 birdies and 1 bogey for a 6 under par score, and lost on the 18th hole.
He tied for the lead with Ogiso after scoring a birdie, but Ogiso, playing in the final group, also scored a birdie on the 18th hole to take the win. Ogiso achieved her first tour victory in Korea.
The tournament, co-hosted by the Korea Professional Golf Association (KPGA) and the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO), will feature 60 seeded players from each country.
Yang Ji-ho, who won the tournament, finished in a tie for 25th place this year. Prior to the tournament, Ogiso, who had made clear his solemn determination by saying, "I came to Korea to win," remained unfazed until the end.
He played his own game calmly and won the final day by one stroke over the second place. Ogiso said, "I'm really happy. After the start of this season, I was only thinking about winning, but I wasn't able to do it.
It's unfortunate. I thought maybe I couldn't do it this time either, but I'm happy to have achieved the good result of winning."
He added, "I wanted to cry when I won. Many people have supported me up until now.
I'm also grateful that the other players in Japan waited until the very end." Ogiso expressed her satisfaction with the two-year KPGA Tour seed she received as a result of her victory.
I heard that the scale of the tournament is getting bigger every year. I wanted to play outside of Japan, and this victory has allowed me to participate in the KPGA Tour.
"I won't be able to compete in the tournament, but I'll try whenever I get the chance. I'll register as an official member of the KPGA Tour soon," she said with a smile.
Japanese competitors Higa Kazutaka and Maeda Mitsushiro finished in third place with a total score of 11 under par.
