South Korea's Presidential Office: Cabinet reshuffle delayed... Verification important
The cabinet reshuffle in South Korea, which was scheduled for this month, is expected to be delayed due to the difficulty of selecting suitable cabinet candidates and the resistance of the opposition party being a comprehensive factor in the decision.
The Presidential Office is said to be focusing on the "suitability" of the candidates rather than the "speed" of the cabinet reshuffle. President Yoon Seok-yeol
The selection process for a new chief Cabinet secretary to tackle the issue of Japan's declining birthrate, as instructed by the prime minister, is in the final stages of choosing "someone who can produce results" from among four candidates.
According to a South Korean political source on the 17th, the presidential office will conduct a thorough review and select the appropriate candidate.
The selection of candidates is currently being narrowed down, and considering the subsequent process, including verification work, this is expected to take several weeks.
Potential replacements for the cabinet reshuffle include Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, who announced his intention to resign after the April 10 general election, and other former prime ministers who have served in the government since the early days of the administration.
Priority is being given to ministers and vice ministers who have held key positions such as Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, Minister of Science, ICT and Technology Lee Jong-ho, Minister of the Environment and People's Democratic Party Han Hwa-jin, and others.
The ministers include Minister of Environment Lee Jung-sik, Minister of Employment and Labor Lee Jung-sik, Minister of Health and Welfare Cho Kyu-hong, and Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho.
However, the appointment will require a confirmation hearing, and it will not be easy to overcome opposition from the opposition parties.
There is also a view that there is a possibility of a change in policy regarding the low birth rate chief of the presidential office, which President Yoon mentioned at the press conference on the second anniversary of his inauguration.
However, the company is now considering candidates regardless of gender, citing a belief that people who can reliably produce results should be hired, rather than those who are merely superficially qualified.
Meanwhile, during his weekly meeting with Prime Minister Han on the same day, President Yoon instructed him to "take all necessary measures to implement emergency measures against the medical community's illegal refusals to provide medical treatment."
According to the medical community, about half of the professors at Seoul National University's College of Medicine have suspended their practice indefinitely. According to the Emergency Situation Committee, 96 professors who normally practice medicine have been suspended.
Of the seven, 54.7% were found to be willing to take a leave of absence. A group of doctors is also scheduled to take a leave of absence on the 18th, led by the Korean Medical Association. President Yoon's directive calls this behavior "illegal refusal to provide medical care."
" This appears to have reaffirmed the government's stance of responding in accordance with the law and principles.
