On the 18th, the Seoul Songpa Police Station announced that it had launched a reconnaissance of the fans who recently kissed JIN of BTS by surprise and caused a sexual harassment controversy.
Prior to this, JIN held a hugging session at the ‘2024 FESTA’ on the 13th June. On the same day, which was the day after JIN's discharge from the military and the 11th anniversary of BTS' debut, JIN organised and held a hug event for his fans who had been waiting for him during his gap period due to his military service, where he hugged 1,000 fans in person.
On the same day, JIN hugged 1,000 fans briefly. However, some fans became uncomfortable as they tried to surprise JIN with a kiss, which he avoided by turning his head, to the indignation of other fans who watched.
In response, JIN was met with a surprise kiss, which was surrounded by sexual harassment controversy. Some fans were publicly outraged over the situation, and one fan finally revealed that he had accused them the day after the incident occurred.
On the 14th, the BTS fan community posted a statement titled ‘I filed a police complaint against the fans who sexually harassed JIN at the hugging session’.
Fan A wrote "JIN hugged fans to commemorate his discharge from the military, but some fans tried to sexually harass him. As a fan who regularly enjoys listening to ‘BTS’ music, I couldn't help but feel indignant. Through the Kookminshinhwongeum (i.e. the Korean government's website for receiving complaints), I inform you of the fact that we have filed a complaint with the police against the fan who sexually harassed JIN for violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act", and this complaint was reported to the Seoul Songpa Police Station.
The police have started to investigate and it remains to be seen whether the fan who caused the sexual harassment controversy will be punished or not.
