Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung: ”I'm still worried” about rumours that he will step down to be reappointed as leader (South Korea)
On the 19th, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said he was "still considering" whether to resign in order to be reappointed as party leader.
On that day, reporters asked Lee if he would step down after the Supreme Committee meeting on the 21st and run for party leader.
He did not respond to the questions, "Is Rep. Kim Min-Seok your running mate?" or "Have you decided when you will step down?"
It is believed within the party that Lee will likely step down for now to be reappointed as leader at the end of this month at the earliest, or at the beginning of next month at the latest, but it was revealed that he decided to step down on the 21st.
The report came out on the same day, drawing attention. However, Lee himself said, "I'm still thinking about it," and that he had not yet decided whether or not he would step down and when.
According to the party rules of the Democratic Party, candidates for party chairman must resign from all party positions except for regional chairpersons before registering as candidates.
Therefore, if Lee announces his intention to step down first, it will be accepted as an official declaration for reappointment as representative.
