The WP cited internal Russian trade data obtained and analyzed by the U.S. think tank, the Center for Advanced Defense Studies (C4ADS), and said, "The explosives were delivered to Port No. 2 in the Russian Far East.
"The 74,000 tons of explosives are equivalent to about 1.6 million artillery shells that Russia will use in the war against Ukraine," the report said.
WP and C4ADS analyzed satellite images and traffic data and found evidence that Russian ships had traveled between North Korea and Russia between August last year and January this year.
Dara Massicotte, an advanced researcher at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a US think tank, said, "The facilities near the transportation locations shown in the data are connected to artillery and rocket storage facilities, some of which contain artillery shells.
"These weapons are capable of storing ammunition for Russian armoured vehicles and armoured vehicles," he said, adding that "this suggests that a wide range of munitions, from artillery shells to rockets, may have been sent to Russia."
