Chuncheon Dakgalbi Festival continues to be a rip-off affair (Korea)
Since last year, there have been many complaints of rip-offs at festivals across South Korea, and one such incident occurred at the Magguksu Dakgalbi Festival held in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.
According to the Segye Ilbo on the 23rd, three of the four local cuisine halls set up at the Magguksu Dakgalbi Festival, which was held from the 18th to the 23rd of this month, did not display the weights of the food.
One restaurant that did display the weight of the food was selling a 500g serving of barbecued pork for 40,000 won (US$43), sparking complaints that the prices were too high compared to the quantity.
Chuncheon City said it will operate a rip-off reporting center during the festival, and the Chuncheon City Community Organization will operate a rip-off price crackdown team.
It was revealed that outside vendors who came to the festival violated the weight display system and sold food and drinks at inflated prices.
The price list was posted separately. According to it, pork barbecue is 40,000 won (about 4,600 yen), samgyeokgalbi is 40,000 won, and green onion pancake is 25,000 won (about 2,872 yen).
The prices were set as follows. Responses to the post included, "The price is ridiculous," "If I'm going to go there, I'll go to a nearby Dakgalbi restaurant instead," and "It's a local festival, so why is it so expensive?"
Meanwhile, the Chuncheon Magguksu Dakgalbi Festival also sparked much controversy last year. At the time, three 10-centimeter potato pancakes were sold for 25,000 won (about 2,872 yen), and vegetable and
