US State Department rates South Korea's response to human trafficking as ”Level 1”
In its 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report released on the 24th (local time), the US State Department raised South Korea's rating from Level 2 last year to Level 1.

The US State Department's Trafficking in Persons Report, which evaluates the "trafficking situation" in each country, divides countries into four categories: "Level 1," "Level 2," "Level 2 Warning," and "Level 3," based on the standards of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and related efforts.
The guidelines classify the recommendations by country, with "Class 1" indicating that the country most closely meets the standards of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
South Korea had been in the "1st grade" from 2002 to 2021, but for the period from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022,
In a 2022 report evaluating the progress of the COVID-19 pandemic, the US State Department downgraded the Korean government's efforts to "grade 2."
South Korea was once again ranked as "1st class," but "some of the victims of forced labor in the fishing industry and foreign workers in South Korea are not being treated as victims."
"Measures to address the issue of the weak are insufficient," it was pointed out. Meanwhile, North Korea was once again categorized as "Level 3" this year, remaining in the lowest category for the 22nd consecutive year. Other countries that have been affected include China, Russia, Cuba, and Israel.
Countries such as Ran Syria were rated as "Class 3."
