Macau's May inbound tourist numbers recover to about 80% of 2019 levels...About 10,000 Japanese people enter the country - Chinese report

According to data from the Macau Government Statistics and Census Bureau, the total number of tourists who entered Macau in May (total number, same below) was 2,699,200. This was a 21.6% increase from the same month last year.
Among the people arriving in May, the number of day trippers increased 27.2% year-on-year to 1,437,000, while the number of overnight visitors increased 15.7% year-on-year to 1,437,000.
The number of tourists from mainland China increased by 25.9% to 1,856,300. Nearly 70% of tourists who visited Macau were from mainland China.
In addition, the number of tourists from Hong Kong decreased by 3.3% to 582,100, and the number of tourists from Taiwan increased by 20% to 69,000.
The number of foreign visitors to Macau in May was 184,900, up 74.4% from the same month last year, and the second-highest number in the country since 2013.
The number of tourists has recovered to 60% of the 2019 level. Of these, the number of Japanese tourists was 9,924, nearly 30% of the 2019 level, and the number of Korean tourists was 34,000, recovering to 50% of the 2019 level.
Meanwhile, the number of tourists entering Macau from January to May this year reached 14,168,700, up 50.2% from the same period last year.
