Five people, including the CEO, indicted in connection with fire at Aricel factory in Hwaseong, South Korea
On the 24th, South Korean police filed criminal charges against five people responsible for the fire at the Aricell factory, a manufacturer of lithium primary batteries, in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, which left 31 people dead and injured.
The Gyeonggi Nambu National Police Agency's Arisel Fire Accident Investigation Headquarters announced on the 25th that it had changed the status of five people, including Arisel CEO Park Seung-kwang, to suspect status on charges of professional negligence resulting in death and injury.
Park was also charged with violating the Act on Punishment of Serious Disasters. The police also imposed a departure ban on all five people charged.

The suspects included the head of the company, safety officers, and personnel from the labor supply company. The police reportedly took criminal charges swiftly, taking into consideration the seriousness of the accident.
The fire broke out around 10:30 a.m. on the 24th on the second floor of Aricel Factory Building 3 in Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong City.
So far, 23 people have been killed and eight injured in the fire, including two seriously and six slightly injured, one of whom is in critical condition.
