North Korea launches seventh ”dirty balloon” following ballistic missile provocation - South Korean report
On the 26th, it was confirmed that North Korea had launched what was believed to be a dirty balloon toward South Korea. At around 9:13 pm on the 26th, the Joint Chiefs of Staff issued a statement saying, “North Korea has launched what is believed to be a dirty balloon toward South Korea.”
"The current wind direction is northwesterly, and it is moving southeasterly from the northern part of Gyeonggi Province," the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.
"Please be careful of the balloons and if you find any that have fallen, do not touch them and report them to the nearest military unit or police," the statement said. North Korea has released filthy balloons for three consecutive days, following the 24th and 25th.
This is the seventh time the ship has been seen. North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the sea off the East Sea at around 5:35 a.m. on the 26th in a provocation. The last time North Korea used a ballistic missile was on May 3rd.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff sent an email to reporters with access to the Ministry of National Defense on the same day stating, "North Korea launched a ballistic missile toward the East Sea from near Pyongyang at around 5:30 a.m.
"North Korea launched one missile, which flew about 250 kilometers and is estimated to have failed," a Joint Chiefs of Staff official told reporters.
"It exploded in the air over the sea east of Mount Former," he said, adding, "Debris was scattered over a radius of several kilometers and fell into the sea."
Meanwhile, the South Korean military has been stationing troops in the border area since the 9th, when North Korea continued to launch dirty balloons.
In the past, they used loudspeakers to broadcast messages to North Korea, but since then they have stopped using loudspeakers. Instead, they have been conducting various drills and demonstrating their strength.
On the same day, the 6th Marine Division and Yeonpyeong Unit under the Ministry of Defence conducted live-fire training with a total of 290 rounds, deploying K9 self-propelled guns, Cheonmu multiple launchers and Spike missiles in the operational area.
This was the first training conducted since the September 19 inter-Korean military agreement was fully suspended. The U.S. and ROK Air Forces also conducted a battalion-level joint aerial exercise on the same day.
The US Air Force's F-22 Raptor participated in the exercise, along with about 30 aircraft, including the ROK Air Force's F-35A stealth fighter and KF-16 fighter, and the US Air Force's F-16 fighter.
The drills were conducted in the skies above the eastern part of the Korean Peninsula for an air interdiction operation, a strategy aimed at delaying or neutralizing enemy military forces before they can cause damage to friendly forces.
