A search and seizure operation carried out by police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor in connection with the fire at the Aricel factory in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, which resulted in 31 deaths and injuries, was completed in six and a half hours.
The Gyeonggi Nambu National Police Agency's Arisel Fire Accident Investigation Headquarters and the Gyeonggi Employment and Labor Office conducted a police investigation of the west side of Hwaseong City from 4:00 pm to 10:30 pm on the 26th.
The police conducted searches of the Arisel factory in Jeongok-ri, Shinmyeon, and three companies, including labor suppliers Maisel and Hanshin Diamond. The targets of the searches included the liquor store of Arisel's CEO Park Seung-kwan.
The police and the Ministry of Labor deployed more than 50 investigators and labor inspectors to search the suspects' cell phones, documents related to work processes, and emergency response plan documents.
The police also plan to use the seized items to investigate whether there were any problems with the work process. Park, who was indicted on charges of professional negligence resulting in death or injury and violations of the Act on Punishment of Serious Accidents, among others.
The three and two personnel from the labor supply company have been banned from leaving the company. Earlier on the 24th, at around 10:30 a.m., a fire broke out on the second floor of the Arisel Factory 3 building, killing 23 people and killing eight.
Among the dead, 17 were Chinese, 5 were Korean, and 1 was Laotian. The identities of 14 of them have been confirmed, and DNA testing is being carried out on the remaining 9.
A police official said, "The identities of 11 more of the deceased have been confirmed and their families have been notified. We will swiftly proceed with the confirmation process for the remaining deceased."
