Han Dong-hoon, the ruling party's candidate for the presidency, responded to the criticism of his "politics of betrayal" on the 28th by saying, "I should not betray those who are not politicians.
"I am speaking to the Republic of Korea and its people. I will never betray the people of the Republic of Korea," Han said to reporters after visiting the United Nations Memorial Park in Busan on the same day.
Recently, Yoon Sang Hyun has claimed that if Han becomes the party leader, “the relationship between the party and government will be ruined,” and Won Hee-ryong has also been bashing Yoon Seok-yeol every day.
Candidate Han responded by asking, "Is party-government relations the ultimate goal of politics?" He continued, "(Party-government relations) are about conducting good politics and serving the Republic of Korea and its people.
"It's a way and a process to conduct politics for the sake of the Republic of Korea. I think that process should proceed in the direction of honestly discussing each issue while cooperating and checking each other and coming up with the right answer for the Republic of Korea," he said.
In response to speculation that the issue of defense cost sharing adjustments may escalate again if US President Donald Trump returns to power, Han said, "We need to find a policy that serves the national interest.
"However, in the case of the United States, it will be a major variable for all countries, including us. We will closely monitor the situation at that time and conduct politics for the Republic of Korea and its people."
