At the 15th Japan-Korea Vice-Ministerial Strategic Dialogue held in Tokyo, the two countries exchanged views on the registration of the Sado mine as a World Cultural Heritage site, LINE Yahoo, the North Korea issue, and other topics.
On June 28, according to the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hong-ki Yoon and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Masataka Okano discussed the world of the Sado mines at a meeting on the same day.
They discussed cultural heritage registration. A Foreign Ministry official said, "The government's position that there should be no unfair discrimination against Korean companies such as Naver was conveyed during the talks, and the Japanese side also expressed the intention to resolve the issue through mutual understanding."
In addition, in regards to the fact that the "Big Seven Mining Areas" agreement, which the two countries decided to jointly develop, is set to expire in 2028, the ministry said, "We have been discussing this through various diplomatic channels."
"We once again conveyed our position that this issue must be resolved in a way that benefits both sides," the two vice ministers said.
"We expressed serious concern over the two countries' decision to strengthen military cooperation, which is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions. In addition, we expressed concern over the North's attempts at complex provocations and other serious security issues, including the North's
The two ministers also agreed that in order to mitigate the threat of the US-Japan Strategic Policy, Japan-Korea and Japan-US-Korea cooperation is necessary.
Vice Minister Okano stated that as important neighbors, the two countries will use this discussion as a basis to strengthen cooperation, and said, "I hope that this Vice Ministerial Strategic Dialogue will contribute to the development of Japan-Korea relations.
"It was also an opportunity for in-depth exchange of views on regional and global issues," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
